Those were *real* ships and *real* droids, Ken. I saw the X-Wings fly
and saw the R2 units perform repairs so they could not have been C-G
models ;)

I like the white body vs. the metallic head for the texture... Makes him look
like a "new" unit...
The metallic head looks dull or plastic like... But the color is perfect...
=)
I haven't ever noticed he was two different colors...
May need to dirty him up a little before you put him in the X-Wing...??

i commented in another thread that r2d2 was cleaned many times during
all 4 movies (whenever they had the time it seems). so, for version 1.0,
i'm going with a clean r2d2. i have a few other models i want to do
before i do v2. since i started doing star wars models, i've watched
the movies about once every three weeks. the colors are right on, i'm
just not sure about the metallic properties. just about all of him
should be at least a little reflective, but i don't think i've achieved
that. for now, that's the only thing i'm going to try and tweak.
thanks for your comments.

plus, having watched the films another half dozen times each this year,
i can tell you that no two of any model (real or cg) were the same. if
you compare especially the lifesize xwings with the cg xwings from
special edition, the coloring and detail is totally wrong. the cg and
small models are all much dirtier than the lifesized versions. also,
for r2d2, he has backwards legs sometimes and different feet. there are
three or four variations of feet. so, while i am done with version one
of these models, i will pursue better textures for version two down the
road. lately i've been gleaning these newsgroups for quality (but
usually unrelated) textures that seem to incorporate a technique i have
yet to learn.

Hey, this looks great! The one complaint I have is that the body and the
head part look like they are quite different colors.

Other then that, GREAT!

that's because they are different colors! i have about 20 pictures and
the movies to compare to and they are spot on! unless you mean the
blue, in which case i can only say they are the same.

Huh, i thought just the opposite.
http://us.imdb.com/Trivia?0076759
"After the sets were constructed, Lucas went through them and had every single one of
them "dirtied up".
The R2-D2s were all rolled in the dirt, nicked with a saw, and kicked around a bit."

Now put a Jawa standing on one of the pedistals. Great model. How about
a "dirty" version?

Okay, obviously I've got to watch the movie again :-)

As you can probably tell, I haven't watched anything Star Wars related since
Episode 1 came out in theaters. :-O
