My son's first image is already long overdue...
Your dad is much faster/better/smarter/ than my son!

LOL :-)
He did pretty good for his first try. Considering this isn't your
reflective sphere on checkered plane, he made it in pretty good time for a
learning experience. He started this image in only an hour and a half
before I actually posted it, which is pretty good time, IMHO.
Heh, I wonder how those ships would look on my asteroid image? Hey, that'd
be cool!
BTW, he pulled out the graph paper for his next image, so it's probably
going to be a pretty big project. Watch around for it :-)

Your family is kinda weird: usually dad's teach kids to RT :-)
But for first image it is very good (I managed to render a sphere, which
wasn't even on checkered floor). Only the background seeems to "stem"
and makes me think that aliens are boiling sea water...

Nah. We are talking about technology. ;)

Yeah, so? :-) Also, I'm the one in this house that hands down computers AND
clothes (and even a music CD to mom once, hehe), so you are right about the
weird part.

I rendered a funky looking plastic ball in an outdoor area with lens flare
for a sun. How's that? ;-)

Do you mean "steam"?
I should have probably made the atmosphere a little thinner.

Well, when I started raytracing, I didn't even know what a lens flare
looked like, until I saw the filter in PhotoShop. I never thought this
could be done in POV. I remember how I gasped when I saw Nathan
O'Brien's entry with the boat and the fireworks and how I scavenged
the net to get Chris Colefax' include file etc. Now such things are
taken for granted but it was not always so. Spoils the kids, methinks
:)
