Here's a quick pic of the latest thing I'm working on. It's a sort of
aerospace fighter (operates in both space and atmospere). I'll be adding a
good amount of detail to the cockpit and forward chain-cannon. I'll also be
adding all axies thrusters and landing gear.

Made in Pov-Ray and SPpatch. (no, I haven't sworn off blobs. The thrusters
are blobs.)
Please Comment!

Wow, this looks really cool! It's almost as if I can just hop in and take
it for a cruise!

However, it looks more like a transporter or cruise ship rather then a
fighter. It looks a little too bulky to be a fighter. But other then that,
it looks like a perfectly flyable ship :-)

Okay, I was starting to wonder... :-)

looks really neat, although it probably would not fly ;-)

Great modelling work, esp. the back parts.

The surface tiling looks interesting, even though normally you would expect
rectangular tiles.

The cockpit glass looks strange, but that's probably only because of the white
background.

BTW, how about some wheels or pads ?

cool. as the wings are so small, i suppose it's heavy on the thruster
use? is it a vtol like the harriers? does it hover like it seems in
the pic or are there landing gear? what do you equate a pov unit to in
this case?

by the way, what are you using for textures? image maps or regular? if
procedural, what do you do for the darker streaks that run along the top
in the back? i've been looking for something like them.

Hey,

Very cool stuff - you show great control of texturing.

Can I offer some suggestions? True, I cannot predict the future, but as you
are designing a near-future craft, some of this should probably still hold:

Current day fighter planes usually have a a very small profile, especially
if they are stelth fighters, so as to help avoid RADAR. At the moment your
craft looks a little to bulky to avoid it successfully.

Also, most modern day military craft, though streamlined to reduce air
resistance, are not as smooth as your craft looks. Might I suggest adding
some sharper edges on the thruster units, or possibly when you are adding
the details stick in a few irregularities on the surface of the craft.

And one other small thing :) - although you have put in some warning signs
and stuff on the side of your craft, they are not very visible, which is
what they are usually designed to be - you might want to consider
recolouring them (at the moment they look orange, you could try black and
yellow warning stripes) or something.

All in all though a very cool craft - you have a great flair for design!

Sharp edges have two benefits. 1 - They deflect radar signals better.
2 - They deflect supersonic shockwaves better.

Your craft seems to be lacking in both areas.

Also, the thrusters seem too big compared to the rest of the ship. Look
at a Saturn 5 rocket of the space shuttle. Fuel tanks are the biggest
part.

I'm sorry to have to resort to nitpicking on your aerospace engineering
skills as I can't possibly attempt to argue intelligently with you on
your modelling and texturing skills.

There was once talk of a "stealth" aircraft being developed having curvature
to the surfaces and able to fly in both near-space and air, the Aurora.

Those kinds of things are always changing.

Don't listen to them... just make it cool, like you always do. :)
