This is an initial posting, looking for some more help with textures.
The Deep Space Station 1 - Jester, sits in a nebula syphoning up the
hydrogen for fuel... blah blah blah... <smile>
Background is, of course, from the galaxy.inc file by Chris Colefax, just
to give a little bit of scale. It's the hull texture I'm still fiddling
with. Suggestions by H. E. Day have been incorporated, as per thread in
unnoficial.patches. Any suggestions?

I think the colors are too unalike so as to make it look speckled with
confetti more than just ordinary hull material. It's called Jester so maybe
that's befitting? Well, more closely matched colors would be my suggestion.
Anyway, there's my quick response.

I'd suggest some ports or "windows" or other hardware so it
doesn't resemble a potted plant in space.
Not that I don't like it :-), but I think that would help.

I think you're right; just before I posted the image, I re-rendered it
without the assumed_gamma statement which made everything darker and
maginified the color differences. I need to play with the colors more, no
doubt. Is the 'shape' of the texture looking ok though? I thought about
making the 'panels' bigger, but I want the thing to seem huge at first
glance. The central (rotating by the way) part is supposed to be a couple
kilometers long.
I'll be putting in some near and far ships to give it scale, by the way,
but I think it will make it look better if the station can stand on it's
own.

Well, there will definately be various hardware plastered around the thing,
eventually, but I thought I should get the main texture working first.
Window, well, that would be a problem. The entire middle section, between
the torii that hold the scoop arms, rotates to provide gravity, so any
windows in that part of the station would be in the floor. And SMALL!!
This thing is a couple kilometers long. <smile>

I wasn't able to determine any sort of scale to it so that says something
about it. The individual "panels" being so small really suffered in the Jpg.
What I happened to think just now is that a different perspective would help
equally well as having ships and such. Something of a more oblique camera
view so that the nearest part will appear much closer than the farthest part.
