Here are a few pics generated by a root macro I've been working on for this
round of the IRTC. It's basically a beefed-up version of the one I posted
in p.b.s-f for help on a few days back. Thanks go to Margus for getting my
basics working right!
The first three are general examples showing root thickness, depth, etc.
The forth is a horizontal pattern meant to simulate roots following the
surface of the ground.

Well, I like roots, and these are pretty good. I would like to see them in a
texture that doesn't leave them looking like a silhouette.

Good-looking roots, Chris. The second one is my favorite. It's funny you should
be posting roots here, as I was doing something earlier that resembled roots. I
might post it later.

Nice going, glad to see you have it looking more or less right. The second
image, with thin roots looks great for plants and that horizontal "along the
ground" type looks mighty fine too.

Yeah, that dark bark tex was starting to annoy me too;) A little clarity...

Hmmm,
Being someone who spends a great deal of time looking down microscopes at
fluorescently labeled cells i have another suggestion as to what this macro
may be used for.....
With a bit of work, the fourth image isn't far off looking like either a
Perkinje cell of pyramidal neurone (two of the many types found neurons in
the brain). I'm sure that there are many histology sites on the web that
would have examples of what these look like
(http://www.neuro.soton.ac.uk/Neuronal_Morphology/multiple.neurons.html
gives an example of 4 live pyramidal cells in a section of brain)
