It's a really cool image, but it's hard to see the tree near the bottom of the
tree. There is a glob of light that looks funny and I can't identify it. More
variation in the color would be nice.

I applaud anyone who can wait 25 hours for a test render... you either have a
life or a second computer. ; )

Actually, there's no tree there, though the scene does tend to have a
christmas feel to it. It's purely unintended I assure you. :{) Instead,
it's really just a glassy spiral blob thingie with a columnar area light
inside it. Add in a cone with spiral2 patterned scattering media, and a
bunch of unioned cones/spheres with emitting media for the sparklers and
that's the scene. Not much yet, but I'm happy with it so far.

Both. Two celeron 500's. One at each end of the couch in the livingroom. Two
kids and 3 cats contribute to the life. :{)

It's pretty neat, but 25 hours!?
Looks like something similar to the dreaded overlapping media problem which
was seen in my tornado picture. Don't suppose you want to increase samples
for an even longer render :-)
What method type of media, 1,2 or 3?

Bob

I think a lot of the 25 hr cost was due to the radiosity which seems to have
had subtle benefits, but were not worth the time expenditure at this point.
But once I'd had it running overnight, I was loath to stop it.

Type 3 was used for the emitting media in each sparkly bit, and type 3 was
used for the scattering media in the transparent cone surrounding the spiral
glassy object.

As a test case, I'm happy with it. I've learnt a lot and can now take this
and use elements towards another image.

I see, was thinking a smooth media such as that in those sparkles would have
been the goal but upon second thought it adds a sparkle to the cone part as
well. Just that when they overlap it messes up the fine sparkle objects.

It looks attractive yet deadly; you wouldn't want to hit one of those
crystals...

What are the star 'reflections' ?

apart from that looks quite stunning - reminds me of the one of the scenes
in the mad-onion demo

The little stars each have an ior of 1.3 and I think what we're seeing on
the walls are light projections from them.
