Emission Type 2 and media brightness (Message 1 to 10 of 10)

I've created a new type of emitting media that works as
well in front of a white background as a black. This picture
also illustrates a bug I've fixed in media method 3.

The first picture was done with media method 2 and standard
emitting media. It was rendered in megapov.

The second picture was done with method 3 and standard
emission. It was also rendered in megapov. Notice that the
media is darker than the first.

The last picture was done with method 3 and the new media.
It was rendered with my patch. Note that the brightness is
the same as for the method 2 media (and that's not related
to the new type of emitting media, it's a change I made in
method 3 which affects all medias...)

PS: for those who wonder, yes there *is* a media in front of
the white box in all 3 pictures

I'm interested. But my tired eyes were strobing trying to look at
those red spots so I didn't stare to long.

Have you tried increasing the samples for method 3 to see if that affects
the brightness?

It does, since the problem is that povs thinks it takes one
sample more than it really does and therefore, the more
samples you take, the less the problem manifests itself :)

Tony,

I will need source before I can do that, and also version 0.5 will be out
soon, so there may not be time for this addition.

Somehow I'm not surprised. If you would be so kind as to write an
explanation and include how you think the code should be changed to fix this
and email it to me, I'd greatly appreciate it. The sooner the better,
because we want to release version 0.5 soon and I'd like to fix this bug.

Oh, well, I guess I'll have to wait for 0.6, or should I say [.6]?
(Lightwave joke...)

I intended to send the whole thing to you today (sample
spacing, new type of emitting media, and two bug fixes for
media method 3), but the school computer just screwed up my
disk :( it'll have to wait until tomorrow...

I just sent my code to Nathan, but if you can't wait, you
can get the source for the files I modified here:
http://www.enst.fr/~jberger/mpov.tar.gz (you will still have
to get the rest of the source for megapov 0.4 from somewhere
though). This includes my bug fixes for media method 3.
