First results of my tree generator program. There's a long way to go yet..
I've used a totally different way of generating the foliage to create denser
foliage. These trees are not meant to be seen close up they are for the
middle far distance.

Nice. Although it resembles me more some vegetable (don't know the
name), which is served with meal ;-)
How much does it takes resources (time, memory)?

You mean broccoli?

I might agree, but OTOH, vegetables like broccoli and cauliflowers together
with trees and bushes and some flowers represent the fractal nature very
good, and are built by almost the same (fractal) rules.

Simen.

hi

anyone has tried to simulate some pruning to realize topiary with those
tree&plants macro ?
i think that by using the Trace() function we can get some very interesting
results ..

see
http://www.cs.technion.ac.il/Labs/Isl/projects_done/topiary/growHome.html
for example (in this case it is an external programm that computes the
geometry, it should be possible to do the same with recursives macro
directly under pov)

It needs more randomness methinks. Right now it's way too organised.
It also doesn't seem to take gravity into account but I might be
misinterpreting what I see on this low res image. So far, so good.

Am I correct in guessing it's for your IRTC entry? :)

I think eval_pattern() or eval_pigment() would be more useful...you
could make it branch more in certain areas than in others, and stop
growing if it reaches outside a certain area, and control it all using
patterns.

Yes I agree, there is still alot to do - At first I just wanted to see if I
could do it, now I'll take the time to organize and develop it properly.

There's a fair chance I won't get as far as an entry this time - I'm over
burdened at work and I'm going to be away on a course with the kids from
school for a couple of weeks .. and more importantly I've reached a point
where I have no ideas for a picture whatsoever!!! In theory this theme
should suit me but having seen Gilles most recent work I need to up my own
standards so I want to do a lot of code hacking, e.g.tree macro, and
experimenting e.g media clouds. I won't publish anything now until I'm 100%
happy with it.

i think it needs some variation in greens. maybe it won't be noticeable
at distances farther away, though. the leaves(as a whole) just looked
kind of flat.

Funny, the day before I chatted with a POVer on ICQ (I'll preserve the
person's privacy, I hope he doesn't mind quoting this little bit)
about the current round. Here're a few lines from it:

ME: Y'know, I *might* consider participating in this round of the
IRTC... Though I don't fancy the thought of making a fool of myself
(being a TAG member and all that), what with Gilles and Howard and
Nathan...

POVER With [the topic] being widerness, i think my main worry would be
Mick Hazelgrove

ME: Maybe, but Gilles is absolutely unpredictable. Howard can easily
tweak the topic to something like "city jungle" or something :), while
Nathan will probably find an ancient Incan temple in the jungle :))

As you see, people have faith in you. Don't betray us, make up to our
expectations.

P.S. Howard, Nathan, please forgive the last part :)
