Well, it doesn't say "POV-Ray", at least not in words. But if used (and
I don't propose we do, in it's current incarnation), it would come to say
"POV-Ray" by usage, much in the same way that the little swoop says
"Nike"...
It (or something like it) is a symbol that can be used to mean POV-Ray
because we say so.

I agree completely. I much prefer symbolic representation than literal
statement when it comes to logos.

Know what's really sad about the Nike swoosh? It was designed by a graphic
design student at Portland State University, who sold it lock stock and barrel
for $60. At even a tenth of a penny per use she would be a millionaire several
times over...

One of my friends parents, a chiropodist, gave NIKE the idea for the
common kink in the heal of the shoe and was offered 1% of the profits
but declined because they did it for a favour and for such a small
company. How he must regret being so kind.
