I left this rendering on the night of the 18th, hoping it would be ready for
your birthday. I'm sorry it took so long, I guess I put the AA up too high.
I also shouldn't have put in that media at the last minute. I really wasn't
able to come up with a real present, so I'm just going to dedicate the first
version of my latest hallway to you. I hope you like it. Please forgive me
for the horrible textures. I have a lot to learn. I wish POV came with a
little built-in HE Day texture creator. :) God bless you and may you have
many. many more birthdays. Enjoy.

Thank you for the tribute Tony. I see a lot of improvement here even though
I think it is just a tad bit too dark, overall. I look forward to seeing
how you improve upon it.

Cheers,

Hey, np. You've been really nice to me and everybody else here on the group,
so you deserve it. :) As a matter of fact, your name is my password on the
computers at FSU.

I was kinda hoping that this was the last version (at least for a good
while) of the "clean" version of the hallway. Unfortunately, it didn't turn
out quite like I wanted it to. The lights didn't glow in the media the way I
wanted them to. I guess I just made it too clear. I also wanted the sign on
the left to be more readable. The top says "Laboratory", and the bottom says
"Elevator". I forgot to add something else I was thinking of: an LCD panel
to the right of the door that says something about the experiment in the
lab. I was going to make you the experiment. You know, the scientists
creating Ken, the first AI being. Oh well, I guess I'll add it some time in
the future. This thing took too long to render (2d 13h 49m 23s), and I don't
have the patience to go through such a long time without a computer again.

What I would like to request now of everybody, is if you can come up with
some better textures for this. I would really appreciate it. (Not just
suggestions, but actual code.) Many, many thanks in advance to everyone.

Wow. Was this the actual render resolution for that 2+ days?
Did the lights use 'media_attenuation on' or 'fade_distance'?
Regardless, it has come a long way since the gray period.

I didn't use that first one. Does it make any difference?

True. :)

For media to use the fading I think so.

You might want to add "no_shadow" to your light objects. The shadow of
a lit lightbulb on the far wall seems a bit odd.

I like the textures you have put in. Especially the stripes to prevent
a daydreaming scientist from accidentally falling in that mess of tubes.

hi TonyB

definatly look far to dim, mayby you should throw a bit more ambient
lighting in there (or a area light with no shadows placed at the top of the
room)

also try image maps instead of proc textures, may give you a better effect
on the walls, and pipes (trawl the 3d resource sites if your no to hot at
making your own)

also it seeme to be heading more realsitic, i thaught you were after a
pseudo 70's sci fi effect, if so, more primary colours and shiny plastic :)

Rick

I have a fluffy toy hedgehog called Bozo (you have to see it and
you'll have to admit it's the only name I could give him :) ) and a
smaller one caled Ken. I didn't call the bigger one Ken intentionally
because it's a memory from my ex and these still tend to carry a
negative connotaion which I'd never associate with Ken.
