Frames from an animation I have been wasting an awful lot of time on
lately. These include the Forbidden Planet-style death ray.

Now let's see if I can figure out how to attach a picture like the big
boys do... :-)

Are those moire patterns, or did you want that look? If so, eww, good
work.

You mean the patterns on the pipes, right? They are heavily accentuated
in a small rendering (320x240) like this one, and then they get even
more pronounced when I compress the image. A 6x40x480 has no moir

You mean the patterns on the tubes, right? A 320x240 render accentuates
that pattern and then compressing it into a jpg makes it even stronger.
A 640x480 with no compression has no "moire" to speak of, although it
does have nice ridges.

So, to answer your question, I guess they are, and I don't particularly
want them, but they aren't there in the animation. However, I like the
implication that I might be able to produce the effect on command! :-)

Ooii!

Nice and slimy creature in the bottom left picture!
Very organic look.

What kind of creatures are they?

I also like your pipes.

How did you do the clouds in the sky?

Thanks! They are all the same creature, just different lighting.

Just about everything in the picture is a blob. I often do the ground as
a blob, too...I use a Mac and since there aren't any decent modellers
for the Mac (at a price I can afford, anyway) I do simple stuff. Blobs
are about as simple as you can get, I think, and I like the way they
look.

I prefer hand-coding myself, but you might try looking around here,
there are a bunch of freeware/shareware modellers:
http://mac.povray.org/model_tools.html
The list includes at least two blob modellers: Blob Sculptor and Jam.
