Looks nice. But my old eyes can't make out what
is in the picture frame. (It is my eyes that are old,
not me.)

It's an old sepia photo of my friend's
great grandfather and great great grandmother,
or so he tells me.

Add photons - they really add a lot of realism, at the cost of very
little (reletively) render time.

Two suggestions:
First, the scene is too "clean", try making additional "dirt" layers for
the textures. Some sooty smudges on the bricks and blackening on the
grate in the firepace, for example.
Second, the lighting doesn't look right. What is the purpose of those
two little lamps if they don't produce the light? Even if they aren't
the main source of light, there should be some detectable. You should
definitely use light fading for the lamps, though, they wouldn't provide
much long-distance illumination.
I would make the whole scene a bit darker, and make the two lamps the
main sources of light.
BTW, is it just me, or does that label on the bottle look familiar? :-)

suggestion: move the camera. the angle is unrealistic (i.e. it's too
square). there are some pretty cheap photography composition books out
there that i think a lot of folks in these news groups could benefit
from. scene composition can make all the difference between an okay pic
and a great one. good luck.

The lamps do produce some light (I think now too little and too faded)
