I tried with an isosurface. Thanks for the idea.
The rendering time was a bit longer (about 6 hours).
Btw, is there some way to get a ramp wave function?

It looks much better than your previous version. I would say though
that it probably would not be very useful as an example scene because
of the long render time. Example scenes should render quickly or people
won't bother with them.

Yes, by using pigment functions. Someone really should add int() and
float() to the isosurface functions...or are they already supported?
Anyway, I would suggest you try using multiple gradient patterns, that
should give the effect you are looking for. I think someone posted an
example of this...

I have to say I agree with that, I remember when I first got POV (and didn't
touch it for a good year if I remember correctly) and my P166 took a little
while for it to render and with default settings w/o aa etc, it looked
pretty rubbish. This image would look perfect as a an example image (thus
can have incredibly high settings for a one off huge render).

I really can't get over how good the textures are. It's a talent I noted in
some of your previous work. Great stuff.
BTW I agree, example scenes should be quick to render.
