This looks so much better.

The only improvement I can think of is to have some
weeds comming up between some of the flag stones.

It was very dark, I had to mess about with it in
image magic, but it was worth the effort.

My boss knows and he doesn't mind as long
as I make deadlines and don't set too bad
an example for the new people.

Because raytracing is an addiction. And because each picture is
better than the previous. And because one day one of your pictures
will be ranked as 'fantastic' (Same reason I do)

>Most excelent render sir, my hat off to you...

Thank you

That's the first time in a couple of years that I've been called 'sir'
<grin>

Gail, this is really beautifully sombre - a very fine train of thoughts it
sets into motion! End of civilization and so on... Thanks for this inspiring
picture.

Heh, the first time this happened to me was here, in this groups. It
was Unkle Ken that did it. I thought I was too young to be addressed
as 'sir'. Of course, you have a better reason :)

I liked the first version so much I called it "epic." The as-posted
version of this one looks way too dark; the gamma-corrected version on
your page looks like an "over-gamma-corrected" version of a too-dark
image.

WHY did you make it so much darker?

I want to know because I may be at fault!

I have feared that I've got the gamma so screwed up my monitor(s) that I
run into a bunch of problems: too dark printer output, too dark T-shirt
printing, many high-ranking IRTC entries look crappily dark to me, etc.

I intentionally over corrected the one on my web page so that anybody could
view it.

>WHY did you make it so much darker?

The lighting on the first version was simply testing. It made the scene look
like a bright sunny afternoon (Which did not go with the theme)
The second one is darker simply because of the cloud layer.
It looks just right on both my home and work monitors. On my boss's
machine it is pitch black.

Well my home monitor is very old. I would suggest you try turning up the
brightness/
contrast first if they are not at max. Also have a look at your graphics
card. It might be trying
to do gamma correction. iirc monitors range from gamma 1.2 up to 2.2
I'm not able to do gamma correction on my monitor so I can't help you.

Ok, now I expect to see Charleton Heston driving by toting a shotgun (aka
Omega Man)

Very good. Makes me wish I could get even this far on a project.

I have a laptop at work and an IMB LCD 15" monitor at home, both of
which fail miserably at any kind of gamma correction (Black looks like
dark gray and grays look bluish) I couldn't make out the garbage in the
alley in your non-corrected version.

Keep up the (very) good work. Unfortunately, you have just proven that
astrology is a scam as we share birthdays, but I have not even a
fraction of your talent, sigh!
