Fun with isosurfaces. It took me about half an hour with a pen, a piece
of paper, and the graphing calculator app that comes with Macs these
days to figure out the function for this one (it's
"((x^2)*(y^2))^.3+((x^2)*(z^2))^.3+((y^2)*(z^2))^.3-1" for those
interested, but that doesn't include the cones, of course).

I used a granite normal for the "body" with some specular highlights to
suggest a kind of crude, medieval iron; I'm still trying to decide
whether to add some rusty tones to the pigment, but on the whole I think
it worked pretty well.

I tried making the floor reflective to make the scene a little flashier,
but even with the reflection turned all the way up to 1, it still barely
reflected anything (weird...) so I turned it off again to save render time.

This reminds me a lot of a fractal image done in POV by 
Peter Popov a long time ago, (remember the one on the pedastal).

Err, Steve, I don't recall making one with a pedestal :) There was a
"glass fractal on a checkered fractal floor" thingie but pedestals,
no. Glad someone remembers them, though.

There is a song by Metallica with this name. This picture, with the
red & spikes & the brooding gloom seems to go well with it :) What
does the title mean and what is its history (I think it comes from the
Bible but I am not sure, not having read it in English yet).

The Metallica song served as inspiration for the title (I had, in fact,
been listening to a lot of Metallica at the time), but I used it mainly
because the spiky object reminded me of a giant caltrop.. surely
something that NO ONE would want to tread on. :)

I'm afraid I can't enlighten you as to the origin of the phrase, though.

I've been on the server having a look, but can't find it, it was 
ages ago, can't find it on my HD either.  The one I'm thinking
of might have been from Spinder.
