I would have uploaded this on Friday but it was only 70%
finished when I left.

Saturn rings are from Sigmund Kyrre Aas's post to binary.s-f

The close moon is composed of 4 isosurfaces. I know there
are overhange, but I like them.

Nice rings! :-) No, seriously I was going to comment on you isosurface. It is
very, very good I think. Is it a pigment function?

The icy(?) surface part reminds me of some real world rock or mineral or
something but I couldn't begin to name any names. Maybe I'm just thinking of
shale, slate, or similar. No I'm not, it's a flaky translucent stuff... well
never mind.
The stark differences between the peaks and surrounding ground is interesting
looking.
Saturn's rings look good but they don't seem scaled right to me. Yes, in fact I
just did a quick check and this has a ring radius of planet diameter whereas
Saturn actually has a ring radius (max. visible) of about 1 and 1/6 times the
planets diameter. But real close anyhow :-) I'm just being picky about it is
all, please excuse me.

Yup. It's a dents pattern + wrinkles pattern + y.

Mostly luck that it came out so good.

Looks kinda like highveld sandstone (Hote days, cold nights cause flaking)

I based this on the moon Iapetus which is partially very dark and partially
very bright

So I need to scale the rings by 1.16666

Pick away. this isn't exactly a masterpiece. I saw some tutorials
on space scenes on www.max3d.com and decided to try in Pov

Hmm, it looks like a very light colored slate to me...
"flaky translucent stuff" = mica?

This is my favorite part of the image. I've seen a texture like this
in real life, but I'm not sure where it was. It looks a bit like a
lime pit that used to exist in front of a factory that processed
acetylene in my area. It looks like something that flowed into
position, and then also experienced some weathering.

The stone isosurface is great

That isosurface looks great.

I don't know where you all find the time to do produce so
much work. I'm not working at the moment and havn't
dome anything decent since last October, there aren't
enough hours in the day.

Tre cool.

Love the mica like stuff.

O.T. Here's a big shout out to all the great work
