T-Storms and Tornadoes are keeping me from getting this done, but I
thought I'd risk my modem to share this with you all.
Obviously, I don't have everything set exactly right yet, but radiosity is
really helping this scene. I cropped this down to the P51, so as not to
reveal too many details. I don't want to spoil everything! :)

Very good!
Just the cord that connects the back fin looks to grainy (or however it
is you may call it) as if it were not antialiased. Try rendering a
larger version perhaps!

Just a little bit of a smoke trail and it would be awesome. Very very
nice as is.

Very nice, but it doesn't really look like the propellers are moving.

Wow! I actually critiqued an image!

I knew a kid when I was in 5th or 6th grade that drew these planes in
pencil incredibly well, nice 3D definition along with the shape and
details. Always has amazed me to this day. This plane looks very well too,
though I have no knowledge of these. Except to ask about the radio
wire(?). Doesn't it just go from the upright mast to the tail? Not all the
way from the cockpit? As far as the AA goes, using +AM2
(Sampling_Method=2), or a larger depth (+R4) with +AM1 at least, always
seems to net better results in my opinion when it comes to such fine
lines.

Actually, the radio is on a tray behind the pilots seat (and armor). The
antennae wire, on period aircraft, runs up the armor plate to a standoff,
and then to a letoff wheel through the canopy. From there it proceeds to the
fin. The vertical mast is actually another radio, intended to be a
directional finder. Some radios, in different areas, used a radio of a
different frequency, which required a longer wire. In that case it was
sometimes run to a spring tensioner atop the d.f. mast. These days neither
would be used, in favor of a short six inch aerial, usually beneath the
fuselage.
The wire is 1/32" in diameter, so despite the fact that I used +am2 +r1
(3x3 array), it doesn't show up very well even up close.
I tried zooming in, per Lewis' request, but that changes the way the image
comes off. Don't ask me why. Radiosity is a mysterious critter indeed! So,
I'm back to working on the scene as originally outlined. Sorry, no further
hints yet. :)

  Thanks for the input! :)

The old xmtr/rcvrs they used needed that much wire and more if they wanted
any chance at all of picking up the signals at the low freq's they used.
Any idea what the actual length of the wire is from the set to end of wire ?

Before I forget - Nice bird. I'm impressed - but not so much I wouldn't prefer
a larger more detailed image to ponder over  >-8 }

This is nice, I have been thinking about doing something with planes :)
how about banking the plane a little, and the prop needs work, maybe try
adding a near transparent disc to the prop as well to make the area where
the props spin look darker, may help to make it look more like motion.

Somewhere around here I have the specifics, if you really want them
(specific to which model of the 51?) :)
Double negatives are so confusing! Did you mean you really want another
image, or that you are not so impressed? :)

Hmm, the disc is already there. Something about the way the scene is setup
has caused portions to disappear, and others to darken drastically. I could
*force* more density, but I think that, perhaps, the final image will make
things more apparent. This was just a beginning to radiosity with this
particular model (and scene), which is not without its own errors.
Hopefully, more work and effort will pay off.
