Hey Rick, we never play "boules" in the sand on the beach : far too easy for
the "pointeur" the one in the team who is supposed to place his "boule" as
close as possible of the "cochonnet", and far too hard (quite impossible)
for the "tireur" the one who is supposed to take away the "boules" of the
other team !

Small gravels on compressed sand would be ok.

A good image, and a great interpretion of the reflective ball/plane theme..

As is posted here before, the ground needs more... a HF, or something else...
Can't tell, I don't play the game :-)

Anooother thing that would make this image a bbit better is area-lights... The
sin has a far softer shadow, in this angle at least...

Hmm... come to think of it.. this is the perfect scene to test a focal-blur on..
perhaps too much to start with, but... that's how we all learn.. :-)

Great!

Now add the grandfather-type guy in the distance who makes ready to cast the
next ball, only seen through reflection in the balls already lying there!
:-)
Maybe some other onlookers, contestors, bystanders? A park? A town? Ok, ok,
getting carried away, but still, the finish on the balls simply cries to
reflect some scenery!

Johannes.

Let's not start a war on this, but the english pronunciation of "tank" (like
in tanker) is not so bad to mimic "petanque)

Thanks for all the comments. I hope I find some hours this week to improve the
image.

Fine work indeed.

A few suggestions:

a) More interesting sky.

b) Head complete with sunhat looking down to see which ball is
closest
    (reflected of balls).

c) A tree behind the camera reflected on the balls and casting a
patchy shadow over the imediate vicinity, (you'll need
Gilless' tree macro for this from:
http://www.mediaport.net/Artichaud/Tran/gtran.en.html

Keep up the good work and let us see the finished product.

Cheers
Steve

By the time anyone reads this it will be too late, but the game Boule is
being demonstrated on "Mumphy" on the Fox Family Channel even as I write
this.
