No radiosity yet. 3h. 20m. with adaptive supersampling (blur/area_lights).

Looks more real to me, how 'bout you? :)

Greetings Grim,

I do like the over all impression but have a nit pick or two about
the construction. The spacing between the black keys is too narrow.
The depth of the cut in the white keys is not nearly as deep and the
little strip that you have left as shown is way too narrow. I just
measured the space between the black keys on my piano and it is almost
exactly the same distance as the width of the black keys themselves.
People like myself who have narrow fingers can actually play the white
keys with their fingers striking between the black keys.
A very minor nit pick is that the majority (all that I have ever seen)
of white keys are only white on the visible faces. The side walls when
the key is depressed will show a light colored wood. I noticed this
before I noticed the spacing problem.
One thing that is evident from this image is that the Grim Line of
pianos is into advertizing. Pretty big logo there but I guess we can
chalk that one up to pride in craftsmanship on the part of the makers
of the product line.

I'll add that piano keys usually have a overhanging tab at the fronts of
the white keys too; as Ken pointed out about them they're just supposed
to be "ivory" covered wooden blocks in a typical piano. Also more slope
to the fronts of the black keys, as well as more height I think. Though
could be that they are wider than I would expect that makes them seem
lower. A more angular viewpoint might be better, what do you think? The
focal blur would most likely need lessening of course. I like the wood
texture.
That was a fairly good render time for the blur and area light seems
like.

Nice blurred effect on camera. I've read Uncle Ken's comments,
and think that if you fix the texture of the sides of the white
keys, you could make this more of a feature by making one of the
keys look as though it's a bit dead, have it tilted down a good
few millimetres so that you can get a good look at the side of
the adjacent keys.

Cheers
Steve

Hmm, I'm not sure you could see the lighter sides (of the white keys) from
this vantage point, but your other suggestion is something I should look
into. I don't have a piano, and the images I was able to hunt up on the web
were not much help. I'll see if I can visit a music shop soon and get this
fixed.

Hmm, sounds like a broken piano, which wouldn't be a GrimLine piano+ACE- :)

I know that some piano's also have felt, or cloth cushions under the keys
for silencing. I don't know that this feature would be visible, but I'll
look into that too.

Thanks for the replies, all.

I'm aware of seeing the felt on the sides of the black keys,
even visible when the white keys are in their normal up position.

Cheers
