I thought I had lost all traces of this image, after losing all the source
code files when I installed 3.1d :(, but I found this test render while
cleaning up my HD. No AA and nowhere near finished, I may try to recreate
it using photons, BTW the pictures are of my children, they got a real kick
seeing themselves on "Daddy's Telly".

Real nice!
I'm curious as to the blue features on the front of the glass and
come to think of it the black. Did youse a lightsource or the
reflection from another object to get the blue, and is the glass
coloured with a black smoky pigment?
In a reconstruction I'd suggest that you tone the blue down a
bit, it's a bit too much. Have you tried using an iridescent
finish on the objects that you take away from the outside of the
glass, I think it would make a big difference.
Hope you get round to the reconstruction soon, I always find that
loosing code and starting again gives me an opportunity to create
a much better image, as you probably know, half way through a
project you start to think "Oh no I could have done that much
better but it's too late now to go back and start again". These
little accidents of losing code have a way of forcing us to make
progress;-)
Cheers
Steve

The blue is actually a reflection of the sky sphere, I was eventually
planning an creating a room, so that objects would be reflected in the
pictures and other objects I was going to put on the table.
The black is due to Max trace being too low.

I agree but it is so damn frustrating.

Thanks,
It was quite simple but it's not easy to explain, I'll have another go soon
and post the code, I may even put a tutorial on my site.

Good one there. Guess there's a method to the cut glass so it would be
reproduceable as you say. It must have taken a while to render, perhaps
the reason you didn't AA it? Great kids there, not poser figures for
sure :) just posing figures.
