fine, I'll post the source(s) up soon

It has character. One thing that kind of sticks out is the leaf size vs.
the small branch diameter. If the bush had been recently pruned and the
leaves we see are all new growth then the thickness and abrupt end of the
brances could be explained. If this is a wild, unattended growth, there is
definatly something wrong with this picture. The leafs attached to the
trunk of the bush look out of place as well. If at all possible you
should add the leaves at one greater recursion level than the one they
are appearing on now.

Grass and roots that enter the ground a bit lower.

Nice start... looking forward to future revisions.

The stem of each leaf protrudes through the branch
it is attached to. Each leaf needs to be translated
away from its corresponding branch by almost the
length of this stem.

The problem is that it took 10 hours to render

Lewis,
Is it me, or is every branch the same?

This is the nature of the beast it seems. Any time you step away from
simplistic scenes and try to approach realism (or even into technically
complex surrealism) your render times will skyrocket.

I don't think there is a real solution to this, unless it's the Bigger,
Faster, More approach to your processing engine(s).

Hey - even 'A Bugs' Life' took a thousand Silicon Graphics Workstations in a
network chugging away for months :)

It could be you, but you may be right.

How many recursion levels did you use? Did you exceed the 6 mark
and go to 7 ? I did a tree that took 9hrs. at a small render size
because
I made the mistake of going to 7, which Gilles warns against in the
extree.pov
files.

Aargh, this is MY fault. I forgot to translate the leaf properly when it comes
to write the file. It's fixed now (download from
http://www.mediaport.net/Artichaud/Tran/sources/gtsrcee.htm).
Sorry
Gilles
