Well, I tried to render this for the IRTC, but it took way too long to
finish. So posting it here is the next best thing. I'm pretty happy with it
except I could never get quite the right texture for the bridge. comments?
P.S. I have no idea what the robot is doing.

Whew, that's beautiful. I'm just curious, where's the robot?

I agree with Kyle, that is a gorgeous image. Comment for the bridge: What do
you think of a rough stone texture? Make the bridge seem to have been hewn from
solid ore - maybe even imbed in it an illumed crystal formation or two to
balance against the large formation on the right.

Has a hand drawn look to me almost, like sci-fi book cover art, I
thought this of Philippes' image in the reply to "'My' Escher" also. The
colors are similar, wonder if that's why, well anyway...
That bridge peeled-paint-and-rust texture seems alright, think
imagination is always a requisite when viewing an image, same as when
reading.
Not sure of what to make of that sphere on a chain though (imprisoned
sphere?), I see some reflections (refractions too?) in it but pretty
much just the lights(?).

Great image! I like the colors, especially the brown/orange/yellow
"glowing-sort-of" ones. I agree with Bob that they give the image a kind of
handpainted look - takes it away from the CGI stereotypes...

Looks good. Is there a story behind this scene?
The bridge texture should be dirtied up. A slight bump map, the rusty
patches (?) should be less prominent and with jaggy edges. Also, the
highlights seem a too bright and tight.
I'm a bit puzzled by the wall texture. What is it? A heavily magnified
bitmap, a repeat-warped colormap or what?

Thanks. I was trying to make it not look so CGI-ish. In answer to your
questions
The robot is the thing on the left with the big reflective head who is
holding the glass sphere
I tried to think up a story for the scene, but i just couldn't.
The texture on the walls is a repeat warped bozo pattern
The glass sphere is filled with a scattering media. Its supposed to be
a trapped gas cloud, but it wasn't really worth the HUGE amount of extra
time it took to render on my relatively old p133.
Also a rough stone pattern for the bridge would've looked great. Maybe a
gnarled chunk of metallic ore. I wish i'd thought of that.

Nice image I especially like the reflective golden object. How did you create
this, what material is on it?
Just thought you might want to know that I found you image on another web site,
some guy who's taking a bunch of pov-ray newsgroup postings and putting them on
his page. He has your email address there so I'm guessing you know about it.

The web site is http://a214.ryd.student.liu.se/povray/. You can find a posting
of his about the site it povray.binaries.tutorials
