Beerless, photonless,... for now.

Very good, I like the texture of the monitor plastic.
The keyboard looks strangely skewed though. Problems with the perspective
and a too wide viewing angle?
Johannes.

Get an IBM keyboard (the type that used to come with model 70s), they'r
better, and last for ever.

I think that the problem is that the buttons are either too high, or too
small in the other two dimensions... looks strange.
Nice pic, though

Well, I tried using a height_field for each individual key, and I think I
may have the key alignments a little off. I'm going to change it so that
each type of key is a CSG object with its own image/bump_map. That should
add to the render time though.
I tried making an interesting beer mug last night. I'm using primitives in
a CSG, with height_fields for the head/froth. The problem is that the glass
CSG sent the render time through the roof, and I haven't even added photons
yet! Ouch.
Well, back to the render board! :)
Thanks for the comments, everyone!

CSG and (especially) lathe glass seems to have serious speed issues.
Try a triangle mesh for your mug. Check out the web page of the
genius Jaime Vives Piqueres, http://www.ctav.es/jaime. Look up the
image Barrabar.jpg in the personal gallery. The image had been given
up as infeasible for time reasons until the glass was redone with mesh
techniques. Jaime has a handy include file for simplifying the job
and some tutorial material. In passing, note with awe the height
field work in some of the other images, e.g. Puerto.jpg.

Gee !
I like this picture, especially the 'bumps' on the plastic of the
screen.
One comment the keys are really too high.

Genius? I'd be interested in seeing that, except a link could not be
established. :(
Maybe later.

Oops, sent too fast.
I was under the impression that photons would not interact with mesh objects
properly. I'll revisit Nathan's site just to be sure.

Thank you! Two color gifs really do come in handy at times! :)

Agreed. I'm going to make a few changes there, as well as prepare the
keyboard for animation. I'm not yet sure why. :)
