CSG and (especially) lathe glass seems to have serious speed issues.
Try a triangle mesh for your mug. Check out the web page of the
genius Jaime Vives Piqueres, http://www.ctav.es/jaime. Look up the
image Barrabar.jpg in the personal gallery. The image had been given
up as infeasible for time reasons until the glass was redone with mesh
techniques. Jaime has a handy include file for simplifying the job
and some tutorial material. In passing, note with awe the height
field work in some of the other images, e.g. Puerto.jpg.
