I download them all, read them all, but the subject decides in what order. If it
sounds like something I know of, I save it until last, because that is when I
usually is able to reply. I'm inconsequent, I know, but whatta heck :-)

+AD4-I've been thinking about this subject today, and came to the conclusion
+AD4-that in a medium such as this (and in many other media), a title is
+AD4-essential. Imagine if none of the postings in this particular NG had a
+AD4-title, would you even bother looking at the work, you could waste some
+AD4-money spent on your phone bill to download 100 Star Wars pics

For instance I'm downloading all the messages attached to this thread in the
secret hope to read that one of you (at least) thinks my image is great and
I read a futile discussion about titles : I've been tricked by my own title
which was supposed to intrigue not to puzzle. Well in fact the discussion is
not futile, I just wanted to puzzle you, and to intrigue you.

If you didn't read Godel Escher Bach : put on your Nikes and just do it.

Once again I think I've been misunderstood (English's not my mother language
+ACE-) : I'm very pleased you liked the image(s) but my previous message was not
a request for recognition but another attempt to play with the idea that a
title can be

1) A designation (which it always is, even if you give a single letter as
title (Hi Govert +ADs--))
2) A description (when the title is made of at least one word, kinda memo)
3) An explanation (The worst from my point of view)
4) A trap (as this and the previous messages : are we talking about any
Dali-esque image ?)
5) Part of the piece (As Magritte's pipe)
6) Another piece (I think of Tanguy a surrealistic painter)
7) A trick (when there is no piece under the title : sorta mixed of +ACI-part
of+ACI- and +ACI-another+ACI- piece
7) Any other idea ???

well, I must disagree.
A title should be descriptive when it is a work in progress, because then the
focus isn't the image, but the idea behind the image. do you see my point?
In a final image, i think the title is a significant part of the image(well, me
for one gives the image a name, does anyone here have a filesystem without
names?)

I never said it should not be descriptive (mine was + a little bit of
pretentiousness).
but just look at your previous message, does the title (Dali-esque V2 (AA +
an idea)) is a description of what you wrote : certainly not, but that
doesn't mean you should have changed the title (the designation purpose
forbid it). It was a simple intellectual lecture.

For the purpose of this NG what I can say is : anyone is free to fall in any
of the 8 categories I've listed, unless we (who) decide a naming convention
(in progress, need help ....) for instance I don't care modeling castles but
if the people working on one needs a little help : why not. Did you see this
thread named "Impossible (?) shadow" in the text.scene-files ? It's been a
real pleasure to help (I know you feel the same)

Philippe
