.... as I have difficulty just catching up with the posts here.
Q: What do you guys (and girls?) do besides raytracing?
Especially with Ken, I can't imagine where he takes all
his time from....
You surely must do something for a living. I understand
that most of the people around here are students, but of
some, I definitely know that they aren't.

I would agree with you that this is the right place to ask your
question, I personally look at this group and post replies every day. I
rarely look at any other news group.
I am an out of work Network/PC support person. Even though I've been
out of work for over a month now I still haven't finished or even
improved the scene I was working on while I had a job, I've been too
busy looking for work and trying to improve my standard of C
programming.
Hope this answers your question. I too am curious about the amount of
time some of these people must spend Ray-Tracing, do they never eat or
sleep, let alone work?

I seldom visit the other groups either, so....
I used to play all of the time. Yeah, a real playboy, but not with the women
(heh). I tried my hand at R/C Aerobatics and Helicopters. I had real talent
with the choppers, but I was struggling to stay in the hobby. I gave it up
for flying real aircraft, which actually saved me money!
After leaving a Government job, I returned to school, met my wife, and
things have been downhill from there.
These days I support the family by repairing private PC's, running a private
help desk (I guess you'd call it), and doing radio repairs. That sort of
thing.
I have written a few video games using Pov to create the
sprites/skins/textures. I may even publish one of them, someday, if I ever
get rich and can finish development.
Mostly, I just trace images and take the kids fishing for Bass.
So, you've heard of the starving artist type? Well... things aren't really
that bad. And can you really call my Pov efforts art?

A: I go to school, play video games, watch cartoons, go to church, eat,
sleep (occasionally), program, play chess, meet with friends, etc.etc.
I am a high school student, 17 years old, so my parents provide me with
monetary support for now. I live in the Republic of Panama.
I think Mr. Tyler is some sort of scientist, although at times it seems
like he's retired. Can't really tell though.

I don't actually think that Ken exists in the sense of the word as we
understand it, I've had this conversation with him and he assures me
that he does exist.
I thought that he was like one of those virtual Japanese people who only
exist on the net. He says not and who am I to question? His judgement,
taste and skill is enormous when it comes to raytracing.

I think Iv seen him around the sci.electronics.* news groups,
I guess he is into electronics as well.
I have rarly posted anything to this group before, Iv had POV
for about a year or so now, but I havnt completed anything major
yet. Although I love to read this group and look at everones
pictures, they are really great!

Scientist ? Heavens no ! Scientists spend all of their time making
guesses about how things work and then rely on their peers to either
support the guess or tear it to pieces. Engineers hear about the guess,
go down to the store, buy a few parts, and come back two hous later and
show the scientist that not only is it possible but can be done cheaply.
Scientist guess and dream - Engineers build and contribute.
