POV by me using Ken Tyler's height field method.

This is a work in progress but I thought this was good enough to solicit
comments.

Comments? Suggestions?

Wow! A height_field?! What method is that? How did you make the HF image?

Looks to me like your getting the hang of it now. It's got a couple
of rough edges, mostly from the cropping stage, but you have a pretty
clean outline none the less. The arm of the lap person needs some
selective height work done.
Thats where the tools in leveller come in handy. In particular the
area select tool to isolate just that area and the raise tool to
carefully raise it until it's flush with the the rest of the arm that
is now much higher than the low spot.
I had several places like that on the fairies group. The problem with
that projet was I used a full color image to start with and the height
values were all over the place. It took a while but I finaly got it
where I wanted it. Keep it up and you can start telling me how it's
done. :)

POV by JWK.

Here's the final version (or as final as its going to get). I hit the 'law
of diminishing returns' so I cleaned it up and it's ready to go.

Enjoy!

Ken Tyler has whipped up a pretty good tutorial on how to do this. I used
Leveler as the height field tool. The primary focus of doing the work is
getting a good image and then processing the heck out of it so you get a
smooth representation in the height field. Smooth is the tough part.

Thanks.

Couldn't have done it without your help.

Actually the arm isn't too bad. Michelangelo was noted for the detail he
used in the musculature and bone of his human subjects. So, the detail
shown is a pretty good representation of the muscle and tendon in the arm.

Next one is goinf to be from a B&W photo to see if that's easier :)

Thanks for the wow!s

The biggest challenge is getting the height field smooth enough to look real
but not so smooth you lose all the detail. That's a REAL challenge!

Next worse thing was getting a good cut-out of the image to be used to
generate the HF and making sure the background was black. Even with some
pretty radical masking techniques I still had to hand paint some of the
image used to generate my mask - and it still wasn't as good as I would
like.
