Well hello there,
Here's a new version that's had (a little) more time spent on it, taking all your
suggestions into account, of course. I tried to add a radial density map and rotated
it so
that it looked like the 'rays' originated at the blast point, but for some reason,
half
way down the screen, the map didn't match up and there was awful banding.
Lens flare = Chris Colefax. I don't know how to model a realistic media explosion.
As for having debris flying around the man, I actually intended this to be more of an
intense blast of heat, rather than an explosion.
So there :-)

He still seems to be "frozen" in place. But it is better than the last
time.
I like the source of the blast..
Good image.

I don't care for that shadow being cast only by the shoulder it seems.
If there were more shadowy areas radiating from the rest of the figure
it would look great I think. Everything else as is--- except, <ahem>
maybe that errant piece between the legs. Gee I hated to say that, maybe
someone had too.

I hate to be arbitrary here but I liked your last one without
corrections/changes. This one looks staged where the other
one when I first looked at it really grabbed my attention.
Either way they both show artistic merit.

All I wanted to say was: it's getting better every time and at this point I
can't think of any (real) improvements. It's good that you can see where the
blast is coming from (I missed that earlier) and the pose of the figure looks
more like he "knows what's going on" now.
The shadow is a nice touch.
If I had a gallery, I'd add this one.

I like that better. On the first one, I didn't understand where
the blast was coming from, and it's much clearer in this one.

A polar bear is just a rectangular bear in a different coordinate system.
