For a beginner I think you have a pretty good grasp of the fundamentals.
As far as suggestions I recommend trying a ripples normal with a high
frequency on the roll of tape. It might give the impression of multiple
layers. The same could be done to the edges of the books with a gradient
normal to make it look more like individual pages. Other than that I don't
think you need to many more suggestions because it looks well thought
out and well executed. I would suggest to the owner of the desk to use
his/her desk tidy a bit more instead of littering the desk top :)

Hey, way to go. Not even going to add any criticism, though to be honest
I would if this weren't just your 3rd month into it (mainly because
there's always something to say), but this deserves only compliments.

There is a ripples normal on the tape, but it seemed to have vanished in JPG
conversion. This latest version should be a bit better, I have alo changed
the lighting slightly and added a bit of reflection to the Plastic Tidy,
I'll have to tru the ripple effect on the book, thanks for the response.
BTW this desk IS tidy, you should see the one I'm sitting at :)

Your JPG compression is disturbing it quite a bit apparently, and sure
its nice to have the thin lines of pages in a book or also roll of tape
as in this case but the problems with vignetting increase. Looks like
you made a good attempt at keeping the tape from being too small though.
Takes a bit of adjustment but if you use a Antialias_Depth, or +R, to
greater than the default of 3 you can increase the chances of seeing
finer lines without too much disturbance. Though of course the trade-off
is a slower render.
Sometimes a higher Antialias_Threshold can be better too, but jaggies
develop. Also, maybe set Jitter=0.0 or +J0.0 but then all this depends
upon each individual scene.
Anyhow, I still like the picture. My only complaint is the desktop wood
texture, but then these are always the sort of thing to comment about.
