What compression settings do you use?

Compiler is probably not the best word. :-)

I have no experience but did you tried

Cannot tell you exactly (as 1. it'll vary from situation to situation, and 2. it's
ages since
I tried it myself), but I think the best results are obtained from doing a 2-Pass
encode. Info

Welcome, don't underestimate the power of The Dark Side! :)

For me it use to be the other way around.. I save my DivX files from
Animation Shop, don't tamper with anything, and it works fine. There's only
one slider which can select quality, IIRC in AM2 it set at 15, in AM3 it's
set at 900.
Not very helpful perhaps..?

Cool, thanks for the direct advice.  I've got my toe in the water, and
before I make the great leap, I'll ask the ornery question again:

do you think that Divx will:

i) have universal and long-lasting appeal,    or

ii) would it be like a combination of the  "gotcha-patenting" of the GIF
format or the "what were you thinking" of the "Beta" videocassette format ?

There'll always come better, faster and smaller compression. But since
DivX has gone onto this commercial thingy, I think it will keep up for
quite a while.
I think DivX will stay around for a while, just like MP3.

I don't like the DivX-Pro Adware solution, and it might get a bit more
painful in the future. But XviD lacks a common standard, so it'll be a
bit hard to overthrow DivX. Or am I completely mistaken here? I've had
big problems installing the correct codecs for viewing XviD movies,
whereas the DivX is easy to set up..
