The first one was a mpeg2 version.

One might have the audacity to suggest you grab one of the many
newsreading softwares which are free and capable of downloading
multipart messages, but that would set a bad precedent, wouldn't
it...

Well, it *is* twice the limit set on the group (per animation file) so not a
very good idea to break the message up anyhow. Esp. if done twice. ;-)

I'll quote Ken:

"Maximum files sizes posted to the povray.binaries.animations group should
be
1 meg or less.
[Oversize files will be removed by the News Server Admins. This is to
help preserve the news server hard drive space]"

AFAIK there isn't a policy on breaking files, although I could have
overlooked that. Just doesn't seem acceptable to use it to surpass the 1 meg
limit.

This will be resolved soon. Well, at least a workaorund will be available
once the new web news view is available.

Note that since we moved to the new server last month this is not really a
major concern any more. However, this does not imply there are not
practical reasons why extremely huge animations should not be posted (two MB
is at the upper limit). After all, people still have to be able to download
them.

Those newsreaders that support it will mostly do it automatically. So if
one doesn't know about the limit, one might not even notice what the
newsreader does.

No, I did not use that trick to circumvent the 1 meg limit, it was a
error, not a clever trick.

I moved to a new version of "Agent" and apparently have mixed up
my settings.

So what do I do ? re-post again :(

You can cancel your posts and repost a smaller version.

Sorry to have seemed to be pointing a finger. I just wanted to say that it
could be thought of that way, just in case people do try that. Including you
though, if you had been. ;-)

Exceedingly large posts would probably be removed still, although Thorsten
has now clarified the server change will be allowing for larger files (up to
2 MB) before risking the axe. I was thinking these broken apart file
attachments might get past that, and so should be considered a bad thing to
do if so.

Of course, I suppose someone is always at the helm controlling these
newsgroups so people like me don't need to concern ourselves too much. I,
for one, am grateful for that.
