Looks good, but for me, I still can't recognize very much that it's spinning
and moving to the beat. Perhaps it needs to be more drastic: longer
distances, faster rotations, and perhaps some rotations that counter each
other more.

But smooth and nice all the way. :-)

Looks way cool, but (and I realise I'm begging to be flamed) what's the point?

I *really* like that thing, and I want to have it dancing around on my screen to
whatever music I'm playing. Which is impossible, because it's pre-rendered. I
guess my point is that it's better than you can do in real-time, and not good
enough for a music video in it's own right, so what's the idea here?

Sorry if I sound rather offensive, there's nothing wrong with it, quite the
opposite, I'm just rather puzzled as to why you've done it. (though obviously
everything I do including my career could be described as "pointless" so maybe
I'm being unfair)

probably the same point as when I made a web-server or a synthesizer, or
even a raytracer in mIRC-script: it's just fun :)
(and yes, I really did all those things :))

Fair enough.

Okay, let me rephrase that in a much nicer way:
Would it be possible to do this in real time? :)

It looks to me like it's not doing any particularly complex effects, but maybe
I'm wrong?

You mad impetuous fool ;)

Well, the movement requires that an upcoming beat is known a little
before it happens. Of course, it would be possible to just detect the
general pace of a rythm and then just make the thing dance in sync with
that pace.

*I* can't program it in real-time though. I don't program in open-GL or
whatever it is that's required.

It's not that complex.

But anyway - just playing with the though of taking it in the opposite
direction - what would be required to get this animation closer to
"music video quality"? Well a clip from a music video anyway - I don't
want to make a several minutes long clip out of this project here...

Hmm... Well most music videos have something happening in them, generally
involving real objects or at least characters (I can't think of a single one
that doesn't). However, to get it to look like an effect from a music video you
just need to do more elaborate things.

My suggestion would be put your object in a room, have it bouncing round in
there like some psychiatric patient in a padded cell, and every once in a while
(maybe at changes in the music) flash the pigments of all the walls of the room
in time with the music for a few beats. And use rasiosity. :)
