I was not entirely satisfied with my previous animation with an infinite
menger sponge. Due to the complex objects, the geometry of the shape was
not at all clear. When looking at a single frame, it was not possible to
tell that it was a menger sponge at all. Only due to the moving camera
was this visible.

So I've made a simpler version which has simple boxes instead of those
various shapes. It also zooms in instead of out. It can be seen here:

Source code is also available there.

(You can also see my tunnel animation there, and get the source code for
that one too.)

I like that. It reminds me of a picture of a person reading a book, and on
the cover of the book, there's the same picture of the same person reading
the same book with the same picture on the cover.....not a bad idea for an
animation.  ;~^}>

BTW, I think you'll like this experiment, where they "filled in" the empty
space that appears in one of Escher's drawings.

This last is not necessarily a bad thing.

The only flaw I noted in the old anim--absent from the new!--is that
there was a slight discontinuity from not enough depth in recursion.

Maybe not nessesarily. But I didn't like it. The new animation is much
easier for the eye I think.

Yes, indeed. I upped it by two levels in this one to avoid that problem.
Actually recursion is a wrong term here, as the recursion level of the
menger sponge is unchanged. (For an explanation, see my reply to Tim
Nikias in the post with the first version of the animation. Or look at
the source code.)
