Okay okay, please tell me how to download the DiVX video compiler. I found
something that is apparently only its file viewer.

Also, I got TMPGEnc and cannot find any way to compile an anim. It appears
to only allow switching between existing movie formats. However, when I
click on the load video file option, a file type it apparently accepts is
"BMP". But when I go to load up some povray-generated BMP's, it says
"invalid video source".

Wasn't it Greg M. Johnson who wrote:

My understanding is that now you've downloaded that DiVX codec, then all
your existing programs that output AVI animations are able to use that
codec, and output DiVX format AVIs in addition to those formats that
they could previously use.

There is no specific DiVX video "compiler" as such, there's just a codec
that can be called by any program that has video data that it wants to
output in DiVX format.

Look at off-topic, and search for "DIVx-crap..."
I had similiar problems compiling a divx. But your problem
with TMPGEnc and BMPs is unknown. Did you select
all frames at once?
I just pick the first frame of the animation as
"video source", if I've got audio, also pick and audio-source,
then I head into "Setting" on the lower right and set the size,
datarate etc, or simply load a presaved one (like one
especially for the newsgroups).
I set the Output, and hit "Start".
You also need to know that for TMPGEnc to encode to
divx, you'll need to head to "File" -> "Output to File" -> "AVI",
and then you can select divx and set it up.

Hope that helps,
Tim

Ah. There's a "Wizard" screen that comes up. IT rejects BMP's as an invalid
source for a "video file."
Your advice is correct however for the "main" screen.

But then my DiVX is twice as big as the MPG-1.
Any pointers on standard settings therein?

Well, I've got no experience with divx either. I'm
glad that I know now how to do it, and I do want
to fiddle with it at some point, but not yet, actually.

Hm. You're right, that wizard doesn't seem to accept
BMPs... At first, I thought it wouldn't take it because
of the standard settings (Video-CD, DVD etc) weren't
set for that, but it didn't take BMP with my own saved
settings either.
I guess you'll have to take the traditional route for now,
but I'll experiment with it tomorrow. Right now, its time
for bed! :-)
