So, after Rune and Christoph gave me that nice idea about
changing the smoothening algorithm somewhat and playing
with the "looks" of the drop falling onto the water surface,
I achieved some fairly useful results. Now I'll be moving on
to making this thing work with easy and intuitive use...
Anyways, thought I'd join this animation-test with ya. It
was rendered in 512x384 and then scaled down. It doesn't
show up very much, but the photons cast into the pool
show in the shadow of the box.
I know that this can happen, but it sure looks strange, and I
wonder if there isn't some workaround for that. Seems to me
like photon-light isn't blocked by objects. Is it?
Enjoy, I've rendered enough frames after the "rainfall" so that
you can view it looping... Or loop it while viewing... Or whatever. :-)

Wow, it looks wonderful. I bet the simulation is not extremely complicated,
but the results are amazing!
Congratulations,
Fernando.

Hmm wonderful!
Now what about an object moving across the water?... say like a boat?

Well, not extremely complicated may well be, but getting
it to work smoothly was the problem, since the algorithm
you find on the web (most often named "the magic water
algorithm") is suited for pixel-waves in order to transform
images. Processing it for 3D-meshes requires some finetuning
to the code and its setup. Since Rune and Christoph Hormann
have done this before, I've asked them povray.general, and
they gave me some useful hints for that.
They both have some animations of that on their homepages,
though Christoph hasn't put it as a stand-alone. You can find
his version under the mechanics-demonstrations (but I don't
think they're included in his patch, or are they?).

I'm working on that. Right now, I'm preparing the rain-code
to easily test new enhancements, and then I'll get to the
macro which should make object-water interaction possible:
perhaps some boats, or balls and sticks... We'll see.
