Greg, *please*, http://www.divx.com/divx/ - or do we have to get a
duplicated big binary message for every movie you can't view because
you don't care for a single 3 MB download?

Greg, why don't you just conform and download the Divx Player?

My first reaction was "oh god, not again", but I have the current (5.0.2)
divx codec installed and I can only play the second movie. Can anyone see
the first?

Among the places I lurk include PC's where I'm not supposed to meddle with
the software.

I've heard CG animation professionals say they're trapped on Linux boxes
with no capability of seeing divx anims. I can show you a link to the
discussion...

If it's not good enough for irtc.org or 10secondclub.org, it's not good
enough for povray.binaries.animations . Are they mere codec Luddites?

I'm philosophically opposed to quasi-proprietary codecs which are
GIF-bombs-in-the-making.

You know that MPG-1 is the common courtesy for posting here...

Tell them there is 'mplayer'... My animation has been encoded with it on a
linux box!

While on irtc it is important that all judges can see the animation there
is not a fixed group of judges here ;) But hey, I just figured out how to
make mpeg12 with mencoder (cannot quarante for the mpeg-1) so I'll repost
it.

Well, I have to agree with Greg. There are many animations here that I
would like to see, but can't since it is in Divx format.

The divx site claims to have a Mac-codec available, but that doesn't
help much since it causes the computer to crash horribly as soon as the
play-button is pressed. However, as long as the Divx-format is mentioned
when it is used, I can avoid downloading it. But it is a bit annoying
when its use isn't mentioned in the posts.

Yes, plays fine here. Though I may have a very slightly older version
installed
