Hi all
here's the same anim (I think...?) viewed from a different angle. The camera
is now positioned at the centre of mass of the intruder galaxy and looks at
the target galaxy.

The playback of this is a little jerky, although I'm not sure if the mpeg-4
codec is a bit crappy or my old machine just isn't fast enough to decode it
in real-time. (DivX and other codecs couldn't get the file below 1 meg)

thanks
jim

Looks jerky too on a 1.4 GHZ, 512 MB RAM Win98 System...
Perhaps some good old MPEG-2 would have been sufficient?
In any case, if you get files > 1 MB, you can always just post
a link here.

Aside of all that, the animation looks pretty interesting, but
not very useful. I cannot see the effect the intruder galaxy has
very well. All in all, that camera-movement isn't too bad, but
now the animation is missing the actual interesting parts...

I'm willing to bet it's jerky because there were so many balls appearig
right in front of the camera that there were tons of keyframes. Or maybe
there *weren't* enough keyframes, so the computer is kept too busy trying to
get the next frame out of the previous.

Anyway, I don't really like the point of view, 'cause there's so much
happening right in front of your face that you can't see what's happening.
Also, it looks like the intruder galaxy needs a starting velocity off to the
side to avoid crashing into the center galaxy.

It's very jerky, this must be because of bad encoding.

eehhh, no thanks.. Not everyone can play mpeg2.. It needs special software
to play.. Mpeg 1 or 4 is preferred..

I've got broadband now! Can't you post in uncompressed AVI format? ;-)

Uncompressed!? Mpeg-1 is ok. Or Divx5 if no sound is involved (sound in divx
doesn't work well for mac/unix).

T'was a joke ;-)
Maybe one that only someone who has very recently upgraded his/her
connection tenfold would understand.

All the best,

What about a bunch of uncompressed bmp files? Or .wpg (wordperfect graphics,
preferably wp51 compliant).
