(Kept the same header for consistency, but this doesn't necessarily have
to be regarded as cigarette smoke.)
Anyway, I tried to make the smoke more straight in the beginning and
more turbulated higher up. Is this animation more like you thought it
should be? Does this animation also have those curls or spiral forms
that you talked about? Or did you mean something different...
Well, not much more to say. Constructive criticism and comments in
general are highly appreciated. :)

Looks convincing to me -
(but doesn't have the typical curly pattern I seem to
remember... maybe it was something in the incense that made me
see it...)

Looking better, but, even though it gets turbulated higher up, it still
doesn't seem to dissipate. It is keeping somewhat of a 'ribbon' appearance
where the smoke should actually start to spread out. I've been looking for
a picture to illustrate what I mean, but to no avail yet.
Keep it up though.

I expect it to be much less straight in the beginning.
Also, It looks sort of 2D...

I think the upper part of the smoke thinning out looks very good, for the
details about the shape i lack the practical experience.

It's better now. There are just some unnatural looking turns half way up,
but I think, if the smoke was part of a complex scene, no one would notice..
As others have said, it looks sort of, like a 2D paper that curls.

Yes please, I'd like to see how it actually works! Though I'm a newbie to
such things, and don't know if I can offer any useful feedback. But when my
spaceship / shuttle is finished, I'm going to need smoke from the engine,
and when it lands / take off, so your particle system will find good use,
for many people I think. :o)

As a smoker, I can say that this second animation looks very realistic.
True, a greater thinning and spreading out at the top would be even more
realistic, but its damn good now!
However, one little tweak: (at least on my cigarettes) the smoke starts out
looking like straightened double-helix; thickness on either side and thinner
in the middle. I don't know if this is possible to do, but after looking
closely, that's what it looks like. :)
Anyway, keep up the awesome work!

I don't know what the typical curly pattern looks like... :/

See the attached image. How many blocks can you make out?
The animation is designed to be viewed on a screen where 8 to 12 blocks
can be made out. If you can see more than that, your screen is too
bright, or I have designed the animation in a bad way. Just wondering if
that might be part of the cause when you say that the smoke doesn't
dissipate.

It spreads out a little. Anyway, I'm afraid I can't quite get rid of the
ribbon-like appearance completely, due to the way the smoke is made...

I hope you can find a picture to illustrate it! I too have been looking
for pictures of smoke in general, but it's surprizingly hard to find any
IMO.
