Hi all,

for my first "publication" I give you something slightly more complicated
than a reflecting sphere ...

... but at least it's hovering over a checkered plane ;-)

Nice! Was this done using Pov-Ray mesh or something entirely different?

That's a very nice illustration of a possible construction of the
dodecahedron starting with a cube: on each face of the cube you put a
pyramid and those pyramids are transformed into the "roofs" as already
mentioned by Euclid to construct a dodecahedron. I also like the
texture.
I have something likely (although using the "roofs" without the pyramids
and with a simple texture) as a logo on my homepage and further on my
website.

Hi Thomas,

just like the regular polyhedra in some include file coming with POV, the
main body is an intersection of planes.

I wrote a macro that is passed an array[] of points and computes the planes
that, when INTERSECTIONed result in the "convex hull" of those points ...

... or to put it more clearly: give the vertices of a ( convex, NO HOLES )
polyhedron and get back the faces as planes.

Got a few more little ideas of that kind, but because of
a) attacks of real life ( my 16 months old daughter )
b) beta testing Rune's particle system
c) thinking about quaternions ( see p.g/"julia math ...")
they will have to wait a while ...

Stay tuned !
( and, before anybody asks: for the same reasons that macro won't be
published soon, because it needs polishing before - but it WILL be
published, if anybodys's interested )

Yep. Been there before and loved it. One of your links gave access to a list
of coordinates for the dodecahedron in that orientation ;-)

I forgot to add that I liked second best ( besides showing Euclid's
construction ) that it illustrates that you can transform the rhombic
dodecahedron into the regular dodecahedron by just tilting the planes a bit
around the edges of the inscribed cube ...

Hi again,

first of all I want to say sorry that I didn't reply again for a while, but
I has a serious attack (really!) of real life : ANTZ ! :-[ (NOT the movie,
the real stuff !) Took me quite a while to find their little openings in the
wall - but that's a story for another newsgroup.

Second I would like to say a big SORRY again, because I feel my previous
replies might possibly have sounded a bit arrogant. If so, I want to
apologize.

So I want to say a big THANK YOU to those who commented on (and liked) my
animation. I regret that I can't accept the compliments on the texture, as

because that texture is straight from POVs (3.1) manual, chapter 2.7.3.4
"using iridescence" - I just changed the color.

I just found out that there are ( of course there are !) better methods for
finding the complex hull than the brute force approach I used, but I have to
admit that I don't understand most of the articles I found on the net so
far. Live and learn (sigh) ...
