I've tried to improve AL's running cycle.
You can compare the new cycle which is attached with the old one which is
here:
http://rsj.mobilixnet.dk/3d/anims/al_run.mpg
I tried to encode the video in a better quality, but the cycle was always
played back jerky when I did that so I had to use this low bitrate. Perhaps
it is a problem with the encoder I use (Tsunami MPG Encoder).
Suggestions for added realism in the motion etc. are most welcome!

I would incline him from the hips up a little bit more forward. I would also
make the arm motion a little bit less, but I would move the forearms a
little bit, and not leave them fixed at 90* with the rest of the arm. I
think. I'm not sure. Cool animation, though. :)

When running, the faster you go the more arm movement.
The faster you go, the smaller the angle forearm, upper arm is.
While running this angle is quite fixed, as you want to spill little
energy.
(All this to a certain extend and if you're the guy who runs the 400m
on golden shoes, you can do it any way you want, you'll win anyway)

I think you're right.

I don't think so. I want him to look really energetic!

They're not fixed at 90*. Try to pause the animation at different stages to
see the small differences. BTW, I don't control the angle directly, since I
use inverse kinematics for the arms.

Thanks! :)
BTW, maybe you also have an animation you would like to post? Just
wondering...

Hmm. It looks like he lands on his whole foot flat at once. Is this
observation correct? I think that people usually run either rolling from
their heel to their to toe and springing off of their toe or only on their
toes. He is bouncing up and down nicely, though maybe there should be a
little burst of energy as he rolls off of his toe?
Definitely better than previous. Just leaving it as it is wouldn't look all
that unnatural (except for the fact that it's an alien). Nice job.

Yes, I've been thinking a little about that too. I think I can tweak it so
he lands on the heel.

Hmm, I'm not quite following you...

Keep in mind that any time you show something good, you will get
proposals to make it better! I for one find it all right, near perfect

Luckily yes! How else could we strive for perfection? ;)

Thank you!
I think the walk cycle itself needs just some small improvements.
But in the next version I intent to make some radical changes to the
technical aspects...
