I decided to make an explosion (after seeing a site on explosions from
povray.co.uk) and here's my attempt. I made the particles using simple
gravity type formulas, loops and a bit of randomness (complicated to me!)
and then had a go at the explosion, exporting my moray fire into POV-Ray and
having a play.
Problem is my media 'ball' is growing but the noise of the turbulance not
ever-changing, is there a number I can osciallate/play with in relation to
time to make it more realistic. I also implemented motion blur for the
first time, but you can't really see it. I'm thinking of applying an extra
force to the balls if they are contained within the explosion, is this worth
the effort?

Nice - as you say (I think), there are elements to the explosion that make it appear
to be almost a zoom in on a static shape, rather than an expanding blast - couldn't
you try just varying turbulence?

Cool. Three things struck me right away:
1. This is very realistic.
2. I would have preferred to see it from further away so the edges would
stay in frame longer.
3. Right near the end the balls start falling (gravity?) and they actually
look like they are all in the same plane. Not likely true but the illusion
spoils some of the randomness.
Excellent work!
pull the camera back so the edge of the explosion is visible for more
frames

Hmm, I seem to have a little problem with this Virus software - it gets on
my nerves, I've already lost a huge e-mail cos of it. I'll just copy it
incase and repost after a delete if necessary. I've moved the camera away
and increased the 'randomness' as you can see in my next post.

I don't like the white flash frame part and the central area seems too
uniform. It would be good if it were rising upward, has a overhead view
appearance except for the particles dropping.

Saw the other first. I realize you are going for a brightness
oversaturation in the middle of it, just seems to flatten it out so much.
