Um, no...what I am saying is that I dislike the Mac version of Windows
Media Player, and don't want to subject my system to the combination of
that software and a beta codec just so I can view the occasional DivX
animation.

No. Installing it and then complaining would be, though...

The QuickTime Player is..."poorly designed". ;-)
But don't confuse it with QuickTime itself, which is a very nice piece
of software. And Microsoft Media Player...well, it's just awful. The Mac
version, at least, is even worse than QuickTime Player...

3ivx looks more interesting anyway...

Looks interesting...but don't forget http://www.3ivx.com/.

Um, no, that isn't what I am saying. I am only saying that the Mac
version of Windows Media Player is a piece of junk.
I even downloaded the latest released version (6.3), and it was as bad
as I remembered...and probably won't be on my system for much longer.
(BTW, I downloaded it with Internet Explorer...the page didn't load
properly under iCab)

Right.

Again, right.

A surprisingly large number of them anyway...specifically the Mac port
of Windows Media Player.

I refuse to use Windows Media Player because it is an awful piece of Mac
software and it would undermine the stability of my system. See the part
right after me being a Mac user...

No risk of that...I have used, and do use Microsoft products.

In short: it is illegal.

how can a codec be illegal - unless you have nicked it.

because it is an "improved" (read: hacked) version of a
commercially available codec.

Some people _do_ care about that.
