Hi,
Before my reply on the "Guidelines" posting of Jon Berndt turns out into
a full scale codec war I hereby want to say that please use any codec
you want and if you don't want to use any other codec then the ones that
came with your operating system then please do so. It's my loss if I
post my animations using the DivX;-) codec and it's your loss if you
don't wanna use it cause you miss out on a lot.
For people who don't have a clue what DivX;-) means then I suggest you
check out the following website:

It's also my loss if I can't install DivX;-) on the Uni computers because of
the sysadmins

I have a similar problem with my new WWW provider: They don't have the povray
newsgroups, so in order to keep reading them I still have my previous provider
as well ( luckily they only charge about $5 a month).

What does your provider have to do with news.povray.org?

You shouldn't have to go to your provider for this. Depending on what
program you are using you should be able to set up a "new account" or
something using news.povray.org
or, click on one of these
news://news.povray.org
news://news.povray.org/povray.general

The povray.org newsgroups don't have anything to do with your ISP...no
provider has them, they are completely independant of Usenet. You just
need to configure your newsreader to access news.povray.org instead of
or in addition to news(or whatever address it is set to now).

This is true of course unless your provider has blocked certain servers, as mine
did last year. Luckily it was an optional filter which was by default on.
