I'm sorry... Apparently Outlook Express breaks up my messages if they're
above the newgroup's size limit of 2 megabytes.

Does anyone have any experience with Outlook Express and could tell me why
my 1.7 megabyte attachment plus under 1K of text turned into over 2
megabytes?

(If someone has the power to delete those postings, please do so.)

Actually there is a server imposed limit of 1 meg before encoding
which means we prefer that you do not try to post animation files
that exceed around 700k in size. Figure about 30% extra for message
encoding.

See above.

You should be able to cancel your own messages using Outlook Express.

You can delete them yourself by selecting the message in OE, clicking on Message
on the menu bar, and selecting Cancel Message.

As far as 1.7 MB becoming 1K, it's because of the encoding. The binary is
encoded to fit into 7 bit ASCII characters. The best thing to do is shrink your
animation's size down or put it on the web somewhere and point to it here.

BTW, I thought the limit was 1MB after encoding here?

Michael

It is.

Ah, thank you. I've canceled the messages. Didn't know about the size limit
being 1 meg *or* the message encoding; thanks again. =)

For those interested in the animation I was going to post, I've uploaded it
to my website at http://www.slimeland.com/misc/SlimeLS.mpg (1.7 MB).
Following is the text of my original introduction to the image:

Since I'm new to these groups, few of you probably know what Slimes are.
Nonetheless, here's an animation that I made a while ago, and just recently
added sound to it. I have no plans of changing this any more, but I'd
appreciate any comments that may help me improve my animation and
scene-creation skills in the future.

For the curious, I wrote a VB program to animate it; the program outputted a
text file detailing where the objects should be at given "key frame" times,
and my POV-Ray source interpolated those values. You can see that it's
linear interpolation if you watch carefully at some points.

Comments, questions, criticism?

1 MB limit doesn't seem to be working. For example, the "Flood of Blood",
"First Flow Take 2" posts by JRG were obviously larger than 1 MB before
posting. As posted they were 1.7 and 1.6 MB, respectively.

You may want to check the "enforcement program"

Jim

In fact they are 1.173 and 1.275 MB respectively... I'm sorry, I didn't know
about that limit (cannot find any reference to that in p.a.f-a-q...).
I don't have my own site so, since I use the best compression available in
cmpeg, I couldn't post those works at all...
I can delete those messages if needed.

Speaking of which, whenever I try to cancel a message I still see it in OE.
For example, I canceled that "Eye macro" post in p.b.s-f and it looks like
it's still there. What's wrong with this picture?

I know, and I still see that one from here too. I never figured out for
certain if something was really wrong with the Cancel in OE or whether it
remains only if previously DL'd. I know I cancelled a few long ago that
actually had red X's show up over the message post icon to the right of the
subject line. Never has happened since. That's why I keep thinking some
setting or other thing is not right with it. Although people seem confident
a message will be cancelled if not read first.

Speaking of this it might be a good idea to locate a test area and do some
wholesale posting then cancelling in an effort to try and determine what
happens. Unfortunately I do not know of a place. Anyone else?

Bob H.

Off-Topic. Messages expire there after two weeks anyway.
