That's a surface normal, yes? Could you remake the anim using an isosurface
(so the edges have true depth)? Must admit to not knowing quite how you
achieved this effect.

No. I can barely do basic isosurfaces, don't have a clue how I'd do this
with one.

Yeah.

Probably not, but I can try. :)

It was fairly easy actually. I just placed a few hundred spheres arranged in
a circle, textured them as a whole, and rotated each individual sphere
towards the origin, 360 degrees over 90 frames (4 deg/frame).

IMHO should be fairly easy to turn into an iso - just combine sphere with
crackle function and then proceed as before. Slight fly in the ointment,
iirc, is that crackle renders very slowly when used as an iso.
