I just finished this little animation (about 113K compressed) which can be
found at http://pages.prodigy.net/lee_brown. Look in the animations section
(it's the only one there right now).

This is not the final render as this was done without AA and radiosity (not
sure if radiosity will make much difference as the only important light is
the patch on the back wall and it's not very big, but we'll see).

Comments, suggestions?

Ouch. Thanks Micro$oft. I put that together in word and IE5 was quite
happy with everthing (of course). Looking at the link in IE5 it even
automagically translates it into a '/' too. Should be fixed now though.

Thanks. I'm going to do a render with AA tonight to remove the harsh edges.

Well, the table couldn't possibly support that weight without some horizontal
bracing under the top :-)
It looks okay from what I can tell about it. The lighting being very uniform
doesn't seem appropriate though, guess that was to show the faked caustics
around the tank bottom better. Speaking of the bottom of the tank, nothing
shows there, as if just blank. Wonder how right that is?
Oh, and I just realized that the water actually lowers and raises instead of
only wavering across the top.
I don't see how this would benefit from 'radiosity' either.
If my sister were to see this she'd have to run out to the pet store
immediately and get some fish.

Great. Another browser I used morphed the slashes too.

You had to wait until after I started the render right :) It's still
running at the moment at about 1H per frame, but that's a good idea.

Thanks. It's simply a box differenced (cut) with a height field generated
using the bozo phased across clock 0..1.

Maybe it does and you just can't see it :). But OK, it's just a slab with 4
pillars.

I only have two lights, one at the top of the room and the other which is a
spotlight shining on the surface/front of the tank. The caustics was one of
the things that was important for me in this though.

I know. It needs some rocks and other decorations in it. Actually this is
partly inspired by our neighbours fishtank that they bought a few weeks back
and a waterfall that I build for the bedroom in a little 10 gallon tank
(that is what the tank in the scene is modelled after). If I can find or
make some decent rocks and/or gravel I'll see about placing them into the
scene. It'll certainly add some good noise to the scene as it is rather
stark at the moment.

It shouldn't do. Maybe that is just the perspective. What you are probably
seeing is an effect of the viewing angle. The water surface is actually a
bozo pattern on a heightfield that is used to cut a box. This is then
phased from 0 through 1 via the clock.

> I don't see how this would benefit from 'radiosity' either.
Well I'm not going to bother as getting AA on the rended puts the per-frame
time up to 1H and I currently have 40 frames. Should be finished this
weekend and I'll put that one up too. That'll remove the nasty sharp edges.
Maybe I can cut the AA down a little bit next time.

Well if she want's to make a model I'd be more than happy to put them in
there! I'm sure there are some fish models around somewhere that I could
possibly use, although I don't think I want to go to the effort of animating
the fish too.

Thanks for all the comments Bob. Seems like this is going to stay a work in
progress for a little bit longer now. That's a good thing because I've not
figured out what to do next anyway :)

Regards,
Lee
