Just thought I'd ask before making a fool of myself.

What are the general guidelines for posting in this group? File size
restrictions? Formats?

I've made a nifty-keen (well, pretty lame, really, but I like it)
animation of an Animal 57 (as you may know from p.b.i) pulsing from
within its tank. I'd like to show it, but not be shot down in a trail of
smoke.

- Hrm... maybe Torus Mutt

will finally be able to get a

public showing, now.

Hi Simon,

There's a 1Mb file limit after encoding. I think mpeg's are most widely viewable from
platform to platform, but I often prefer to post avi's as I can often get better
quality.
As for making a fool of yourself...don't let that worry you. I don't let it stop me
:-) Go
ahead and post it....I'd like to see it.

all the best,

I second the avi comment. I get too many unknown mpeg warning messages
from the different use of mpeg compression and mpeg type from the anims
posted here. This means I have prety much given up even looking at
peoples work when they post in mpeg format.

For me it's more the other way 'round. I had only very few problems with
mpeg but lots with AVI. I guess that's a problem between the UN*X and M$
world.

I agree. I am currently damned to the Winsux world, but I frequently
have problems viewing avi animations. This is often but not always an
"unsupported codec" problem on my ancient system. On the other hand,
I use Vmpeg (free, available via mpeg.org) to view mpeg videos and I
have viewed literally every irtc-anim video without difficulty in
spite of my limited hardware and the only ones that have given me
problems on the newsgroup are the occasional Mac-generated mpeg that
has not been "flattened" (had the resource fork removed). Even then,
by manually removing it I can usually view them.

Funny how getting an up to date codec is such a problem while "flattening" a
Mac-generated MPEG is not (I never tried).
I think the more important difference is in compression (MPEG) or quality (AVI).

Remco
