Hello!
I have a request.
Please stop programming the "feature" for the beta versions
to expire on a certain date.
That is very inconvenient.
Keep up the wonderful work!

Nobody is forcing you to use the beta versions. Use 3.6 if you don't
want it to expire.

There is a very good reason for betas to expire.
Here it is: beta are debuging development releases. Developers don't need bug
reports about older versions, only about the latest version. Without the
expiration, older versions will continue to float arount, benerating a flow of
"bug" reports about isues that have already been resolved, bogging down the
finding of genuine bugs and hindering the development process. I have seen that
in other projects, many bug reports about things that where fixed over a YEAR,
and more than 20 versions ago... Even some cases of previous major versions beta
releases.
And, as Warp mentioned, you don't NEED to use any beta release.

We have been through this over and over again throughout the beta testing
rounds. The expiration is there for a reason. If people truly want to
assist in the development of POVRay, then they will understand and respect
the reason for expiring betas. This also allows anyone in the POV comunity
to to take part in the beta development processes.
We went throught this same kind of continual debate through the 3.5 beta
testing. If it keeps continuing, in the future, the POV development team
may consider closing off public beta testing in the future altogether...

Something which would benefit no-one. Developement would be slower
(because there would be far less testers), the amount of work for the
developers would be larger, the amount of uncaught bugs in the release
version would inevitably be much higher, and the community would be unable
to participate in testing the upcoming new version.
Thus stop complaining about the expiration date, and instead be grateful
that you can beta-test the new version and give your support for making
POV-Ray a better program. This should be a joint effort.

IMO Beta testing is giving back something to the community not so you can
have the latest flavour of software.
