There is a very good reason for betas to expire.
Here it is: beta are debuging development releases. Developers don't need bug
reports about older versions, only about the latest version. Without the
expiration, older versions will continue to float arount, benerating a flow of
"bug" reports about isues that have already been resolved, bogging down the
finding of genuine bugs and hindering the development process. I have seen that
in other projects, many bug reports about things that where fixed over a YEAR,
and more than 20 versions ago... Even some cases of previous major versions beta
releases.
And, as Warp mentioned, you don't NEED to use any beta release.
