Hallo!
Does anybody now where you can find detailed information on the
blob-file-format *.blb, which can be imported in Moray (threshold,
strength, different blob objects in one file,...)?
I was also wondering if it is possible to import spheres and cylinders to
Moray this way without using the "warping" effect of the blob objects
(discrete objects with no deformation of the "pure" objects)?
On the other hand there is an import filter called "City coordinates". Does
anybody know something about this import file type?
Thank you for your help
Matti

This is part of the CityMFC.dll, the City plugin for Moray, based on Chris
Colefax's include file. see http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/keithh/povnew.htm

Thank you for your reply. But the import filter is also there without
installing the CityMFC dll. Is there anywhere a description of these
coordinates? On the webpage you announced I coulnd't find it :(

I must have answered rather hastely. I assumed that city coodinates had to
do with the City plugin (which I still believe they are). However, I am
unable to find that particular import filter on my system, so I wonder what
that is. I seem to have a dim memory about it, but nothing useful now :-(
Concerning your blob question, I am afraid I don't know. That would be
typically a question for Lutz I think (Are you there, Lutz?). You could try
to mail him at the Moray site.

I too have a very vague memory about the City plugin. IIRC Lutz compiled
Moray Version 3.5 with the plugin installed. So you get the entry in the
about this.)
As for the blobs, I seem to remember there was a program for creating Blob
Objects but it went the way of all flesh years ago.
Matti, The best thing to do is either ignore these objects or install the
city plugin from,

Thanks for your answers.
The reason I asked for the inport-filter is, that I would like to import
simple objects i.e. spheres and if possible cylinders to moray to make some
povray files of crystal structures.
One way could be blobs (I thought) because using "sphere" and "cone" in the
blob file it is possible to import these objects. The problem is, that I do
not know how to suppress the "warping" of the objects surfaces and so they
are deformed. On the other hand a blob with many different spheres can only
be modified as a whole and not each sphere as a single object (color,
raduis,...). I know that this is how it should be for blobs but not for my
case... :(
The other thing I tried was the "povinclude.dll". This works rather nice,
but it is not possible to see the objects in moray to set the camera
position precisely and use the other nice features of moray.
That was the reason why I hoped importing city coordinates or knowing
something more about blobs could hepl, getting out of this problem.
I read something about a new pov-importer plugin, but is it not out now. So
does anybody imagine another solution for such a problem with simple
objects?
Greetings
Matti

There are a couple of programmes will do what you want. 3DWin has a plugin that
imports and exports to and from Moray. It is not free but not expensive.
http://www.tb-software.com/products_3.html#
PoseRay can create Moray UDO's that can be imported into Moray from obj meshes

Hi, i fear both programs only import meshes and no "fundamental" objects
like spheres... Are there any other tools which can manage this???

What do you want to import and from where? Is it Povray primitives?
AFAIK there is no way that you can do this with Moray. The only modeller I know
of that can read/import Povray scripts (limited number of primitives) is
Bishop3D and that is being Beta tested just now.

The file format is not a problem. It can be all kinds of ascii-files because
I create them myself, but the objects I want to import are spheres (position
and radius) and cylinders (position and diameter). I already tried
PDB-files, but I couldn't find a way to determine radii there :( .
And because I like working with Moray it would be nice to find a way to
import these objects there.
In the meantime I found out how to import blobs with a sharp surface into
Moray. But different spheres in one blob file can not be treated
individually after importing - only as a unit. So using blobs is not as
flexible as it would be nice:(
